Just Today

Today I’m done.

Done with trying to understand other people.

Done with the cruelty in the world,

and the mean things people do to each other.

The time I spend connecting with someone, only to be shut out, shut up, and pushed away.

I realize that it’s all their own garbage that has not much to do with me,

but I do hope they realize that the stones they throw my way, and into my water,

create infinite ripples.

I’m done with longing, loneliness, pain, and confusion.

Today, if it weren’t for my son,

I‘d be done for good.

Life can be so painful,

but tomorrow.....

It will be more beautiful again.

I hope.
