Protection

There are walls around my heart.

My trust issues are deep and painful.

I don’t know if I can let anyone in again.

I will give and give until my heart bleeds.

I have to be careful, I’ve been hurt since I was a child.

Each time I’ve risked,

I get crushed.

The pain is too excruciating to bear.

There will be people who coax me out of my safety zone.

I hope their integrity is intact,

and their hearts are as big as mine.
