Thirsting Bird

Writer's picture: Angie Nabrotzky LassigAngie Nabrotzky Lassig

To be a bird,

would be unique.

Such freedom of flight.

A feeling of majesty.

I am so soft, so light!

I would have a sky that lasts forever,

I'd never miss a sunrise, sunset, or phase of the moon.

I could savor every season.

Enjoy every shape of cloud.

Sing whenever I was full of emotion.

Trees are never too high to climb, now that I have wings!

Building my nest,

I'd choose the best sticks,

and softest fluff from the milkweed pods.

I think my favorite part would be drinking in the sweet nectar

from every bright and colorful flower,

so many exotic flavors.

I might look the same on the outside, but I would be unique,

on the inside.

It may be a short life, but a great one indeed.
