Fire has been in a lot of my thoughts, poems, and writing the past three months.
Now as fire rages across the globe this summer, it’s on my mind again. It pains me to see the destruction of habitat, animals running for safety, and precious trees burning to charcoal. We need more trees, not less. We still haven't recovered from last year's fires! The air fills my lungs with acrid smoke, gives me headaches, and makes the sunlight dimly golden, the moon blood red. The damage will soon turn to regeneration, and new life. I try to look for the positive, but my heart is sick.
This summer has been ruled by the planet Mars. The fiery planet. The one that rules over emotions and actions like ambition, competition, war, energy, passion, drive, and determination. It speaks to the power and confident expression of ourselves. Mars rules our sexuality and sexual energy. Mars will also be closer to the earth than it has been in 15 years! Do you feel it? My, isn't it HOT outside?! After September ninth, it will go into retrograde. Astrologists say we will feel out of step with "normal". Well, this whole year is AB-normal! On top of that, people will all have a strong desire to put our own needs and desires before social expectations. Selfish much? In 2020, we have fires of anger, poverty, race, sickness, and general unrest.
I also think about the restorative powers of fire, the refining of fire. Fiery speech. There seems to be a trend of fire eaters and dancers too. They are awakened by the red planet.
I could watch glowing embers, and flames for hours. The fire dances, and smoke curls, and writhes over itself in the night. My passions are definitely hot this year. From sex to art to writing, it's all been set ablaze!! I desire to dance with abandon, and tell the story of the fire in my spirit with the motions of my body. I've given in to much more wildness, and I don't want to turn back. I feel powerful, and confident and alive. So, I intend to keep it. I want to share it.
